CALM
Annual General Meeting
The Annual General
Meeting of the New Zealand Campaign Against Landmines will be held
in the boardroom of the New Zealand Red Cross at 69 Molesworth Street
(corner of Molesworth and Hawkestone streets), at 5.30pm on Wednesday
12 June 2002.
All members
and supporters of CALM are welcome. Bring a family member or friend.
Nominations
are called for the positions of Convenor, Secretary, Treasurer and
Committee members.
The Agenda will
include:
- Welcome
and Apologies,
- Presentation
of Annual Reports,
- Election
of Officers and Committee for 2002-03,
- Other Business
(including report on meeting with US ambassador earlier that day).
I indicated
to the Committee at our March meeting that I intend to stand down
from the Convenorship of CALM at this AGM, having held that post
for some four years now. The demands of my other obligations, such
as the Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief (RedR), have expanded,
and make it impossible to give full attention to everything! I would
like to continue involvement with the Campaign but only on specific
tasks which will be arranged with the incoming Committee after the
AGM.
Deborah Morris
has agreed that she would consider taking up the Convenor role after
her return from overseas in about a year's time. (Deborah will also
be in Geneva when the 4th Meeting of States Parties (4MSP) takes
place.)
The present
officers are:
Convenor: Neil Mander. Treasurer: Brian Hayes. Spokesperson:
John Head.
Committee: Malcolm Watson, David Zwartz, Deborah Morris,
Ian Shearer, John Waldmann, Graham French (Christchurch), Lawrence
Carter (Auckland), Richard Davis, and Philip Lyth. The position
of Secretary is vacant at present.
The AGM will
be followed by a meeting of the incoming Committee under the chairmanship
of the new Convenor.
There will be
new challenges this year for the Campaign in its task of universalising
the landmine ban treaty and in finding a way to extend that to groups
outside the reach of the Ottawa Mine Ban Treaty. To do that, an
enthusiastic and active Committee is vital to lead and co-ordinate
that work.
